The ceramic chandeliers refer to Un Autre Monde, an illustrated book with engravings by Grandville (1803-1847). The book is an excursion to a parallel universe where inanimate objects like chandeliers come to life. The dreamscape that inhabits Granville’s drawings is a mythical realm of shadowy plays, museum rituals, Fourierist utopias and space travel. This is where Benjamin located ‘the split between... utopian and cynical element.’

If the commodity was a fetish, then Grandville was the tribal sorcerer.’ - Walter Benjamin, Arcades Project, G&, 2
