Ultraviolet
Ripeness of Event

2003
Galerie Fons Welters Amsterdam, NL

For the spatial setting at the gallery, Tee is inspired by a three months stay at the Chinese European Artcenter in Xiamen, China. A large harmonica tent-structure descends from the roof. It is green on the outside and has a bright yellow inside, which causes a mysterious glow. Images printed on the tent tell the story of Lao Tze, the founding father of Taoism. The sculpture Empty Minds stands in a corner, in a delicate balance. A ceramic mind cake is stuck at the end of the 4-meter long bamboo stalks. Each text on these mind cakes offers a different Tao-magic thought. The neon tubes underneath each mind cake give them an eerie glow. The installation suggests a garden in a remote and intangible culture.
